APV Compatible Gaskets Matched by Geometry and Service Conditions

APV compatible gaskets are independently manufactured replacement seals for identified gasketed APV plate heat exchanger configurations. Compatibility means more than fitting around the plate: the gasket must reproduce the complete sealing path, engage with the correct retaining features, and use an elastomer suitable for every process and cleaning condition.

Geometric Compatibility

  • Overall gasket dimensions and plate-groove profile
  • Port-ring shape and diagonal sealing sections
  • Leak-detection channels and vent positions
  • Clip, tab, insertion, or adhesive-retained features
  • Profile height and compression contact area

Operating Compatibility

  • Fluids and concentrations on both exchanger circuits
  • Normal, maximum, and cleaning temperatures
  • Operating pressure and pressure fluctuations
  • Cleaning chemicals, concentration, and contact time
  • Start-up, shutdown, and thermal-cycling frequency
A gasket that appears to fit can still be incompatible if its port sealing, vent arrangement, attachment points, profile height, or elastomer compound differs from the required design.
Four compatibility checks

What Must Match Before an Order Is Released

Compatibility area Details to compare Risk if incorrect
Plate Plate code, dimensions, port layout, groove geometry, and plate variant The gasket may not seat continuously in the sealing groove.
Retention Clip-on, snap-in, inserted, glued, tab, and corner details The gasket may move, lift, twist, or detach during assembly.
Material Elastomer type, compound requirements, fluid exposure, and cleaning chemicals Swelling, hardening, cracking, or loss of sealing force may occur.
Operation Temperatures, pressures, thermal cycling, shutdowns, and exposure duration The gasket may age prematurely or lose compression stability.
Material options

Choose the Compound for Both Process Circuits

The existing material is a useful reference, but its continued suitability should be reviewed if fluids, temperatures, cleaning procedures, or operating cycles have changed.

EPDM

Commonly considered for water, hot-water, HVAC, and compatible aqueous duties. It is generally unsuitable for hydrocarbon oils and fuels.

NBR

Commonly evaluated for selected oils, greases, hydraulic fluids, and industrial utilities. Suitability varies with formulation, additives, and temperature.

FKM

Often evaluated for selected hydrocarbons, oils, chemicals, and elevated-temperature applications. Exact compound compatibility remains necessary.

Do not approve a material substitution using temperature resistance alone. Chemical compatibility, exposure time, pressure, cleaning media, and compression behavior must also be considered.
Product identification

How to Confirm an APV Compatible Gasket

Exchanger Information

Provide the APV model, nameplate photo, serial information, and available maintenance records.

Plate Identification

Send readable plate markings, overall dimensions, port diameter, and port-center distances.

Gasket Images

Photograph an intact gasket from both sides, including ports, corners, vents, clips, and tabs.

Physical Sample

An undamaged sample can support profile comparison when model data or plate markings are unavailable.

Operating Data

List both fluids, concentrations, temperatures, pressures, cleaning media, and process cycles.

Order Requirements

Confirm the required quantity, complete-set scope, spare allowance, labeling, and destination.

Legacy and uncertain identification

When the Nameplate or Gasket Code Is Missing

Older exchangers and previously refurbished plate packs may not retain complete identification records. Multiple reference points should be compared before compatibility is confirmed.

Useful Reference Evidence

  • Full exchanger and frame photographs
  • Plate stamping, embossing, or etched markings
  • Overall plate length and width
  • Port diameter and center-to-center measurements
  • Clear images of an intact gasket profile
  • Undamaged gasket or plate samples

Details That Commonly Cause Errors

  • Similar plate outlines with different port-ring profiles
  • Different clip or tab locations within one plate family
  • Special turning, transition, or end-plate gaskets
  • Previous gasket material substitutions
  • Incomplete measurements taken from damaged samples
  • Mixed plate variants within a refurbished exchanger
Receiving and installation

Confirm Compatibility Before Closing the Plate Pack

Compare the Profile

Place the new and reference gaskets side by side and compare the complete path, ports, vents, corners, clips, and markings.

Check Plate Engagement

Verify that the gasket sits naturally in the groove and that all retaining features engage without stretching or twisting.

Control Plate Compression

Align the plate pack and tighten the frame evenly according to the approved assembly procedure and closing measurement.

Do not force an incompatible gasket into the plate groove or use excessive tightening to compensate for incorrect profile height, poor retention, damaged plates, or assembly errors.

Compatibility questions

APV Compatible Gasket FAQ

What does an APV compatible gasket mean?

It means an independently manufactured gasket has been matched to an identified APV plate profile, retention design, and confirmed service environment. Brand or exchanger-family identification alone is insufficient.

Is the APV exchanger model enough to select a gasket?

Not always. Plate variants, special plate positions, attachment methods, and gasket materials may differ. Plate markings, dimensions, photographs, and service data improve identification accuracy.

Can a gasket sample be used for compatibility matching?

Yes. An intact, undistorted sample can support profile and attachment comparison, especially when the nameplate or plate code is unreadable. Exchanger data and plate measurements should still be included where possible.

Can the gasket material differ from the existing gasket?

A material change may be considered only after reviewing both process circuits, cleaning chemicals, operating temperatures, pressure, and exposure time. The replacement profile must also remain compatible with the plate.

Can compatible gaskets be supplied as complete plate-pack sets?

Yes. Confirm the installed plate quantity, special plate positions, gasket material, spare allowance, labeling requirements, and number of exchangers before the set quantity is finalized.

Are these original APV gaskets?

No. They are independently manufactured replacement gaskets intended for confirmed compatible APV gasketed plate heat exchanger configurations. The APV name is used only to identify compatibility requirements.

Verify the APV Gasket Before Ordering

Send the exchanger model, plate markings, gasket photos, measurements, attachment method, material, process conditions, quantity, and destination country.
