Oil-service gasket selection

APV NBR Gaskets for Confirmed Fluid and Plate Conditions

APV NBR gaskets are independently manufactured replacement seals for compatible gasketed APV plate heat exchanger configurations. NBR is commonly evaluated for selected oils, greases, hydraulic fluids, and industrial utilities, but suitability depends on the precise fluid formulation, additives, temperatures, pressure cycle, and cleaning procedure.

Applications Commonly Evaluated

  • Selected mineral-oil and lubricant duties
  • Compatible hydraulic-fluid circuits
  • Oil cooling and industrial utility applications
  • Processes involving compatible greases or oily media
  • Replacement of an existing verified NBR gasket set

Conditions Requiring Detailed Review

  • Synthetic oils with unknown base chemistry
  • Fluids containing aggressive additive packages
  • Solvents, oxidizing chemicals, or mixed process streams
  • Cleaning agents not included in the original specification
  • Elevated or rapidly changing operating temperatures
"Oil service" alone is not enough to approve NBR. State the exact commercial fluid, base-oil type, additives, concentration, operating conditions, and cleaning chemicals.
Compatibility screening

Data Required for NBR Material Selection

Selection factor Information to provide Why it affects NBR suitability
Fluid identity Product name, base chemistry, concentration, grade, and supplier data where available Different fluids described as oil can interact with NBR differently.
Additives Detergents, anti-wear agents, corrosion inhibitors, solvents, and other additives Additive packages may determine compatibility more than the base oil.
Temperature Normal, maximum, cleaning, start-up, and shutdown temperatures Temperature affects aging, hardness, elasticity, and compression retention.
Pressure cycle Operating pressure, peak pressure, fluctuations, and start-stop frequency Pressure changes influence sealing stress and movement within the plate pack.
Cleaning Chemical name, concentration, temperature, contact time, and cleaning frequency The cleaning solution may be less compatible than the normal process fluid.
Contamination Water, fuel, solvent, process chemical, or other possible cross-contaminants Mixed exposure can change swelling and aging behavior.
Material comparison

When to Evaluate NBR Instead of EPDM or FKM

The correct gasket material follows the complete chemical and operating environment. A higher-temperature or more expensive material is not automatically the better choice.

NBR

Commonly evaluated for selected oils, greases, hydraulic fluids, and industrial utility duties. Exact fluid and additive compatibility must be confirmed.

EPDM

Commonly considered for water, hot-water, HVAC, and compatible aqueous applications, but generally unsuitable for hydrocarbon oils and fuels.

FKM

Often evaluated for selected hydrocarbons, chemicals, oils, and elevated-temperature duties. It is not universally compatible with every fluid or cleaner.

Do not substitute NBR for EPDM or FKM without reviewing both exchanger circuits, operating cycles, possible contamination, and every cleaning chemical.
Profile compatibility

The NBR Gasket Must Match the Exact APV Plate

Sealing Geometry

The field gasket, port rings, diagonal sections, and vent channels must reproduce the complete plate sealing path.

Attachment Features

Clip-on, snap-in, inserted, tabbed, or glued details must correspond to the identified plate design.

Compression Profile

The cross-section and profile height must support consistent sealing contact at the approved plate-pack closing position.

Similar outside dimensions do not prove compatibility. Port geometry, vent positions, corner details, clips, tabs, and profile height must also be checked.
Identification workflow

How to Confirm an APV NBR Gasket

Identify the Exchanger

Provide the APV model, nameplate photograph, serial information, and maintenance records.

Identify the Plate

Send plate markings, overall dimensions, port diameter, and horizontal and vertical port-center distances.

Document the Gasket

Photograph an intact gasket from both sides, including ports, vents, clips, tabs, corners, and markings.

Identify the Fluid

Provide commercial names, base chemistry, additives, concentrations, and potential contaminants.

State Operating Conditions

Include normal and maximum temperatures, pressures, cleaning media, and start-stop cycles.

Define the Order

Confirm plate quantity, complete-set scope, spare allowance, labeling, packaging, and destination.

Failure assessment

What Used NBR Gaskets Can Reveal

Material-Related Indicators

  • Swelling or softening after fluid exposure
  • Hardening and loss of elasticity
  • Surface cracking or brittle sections
  • Permanent flattening after decompression
  • Localized damage near fluid ports

Assembly-Related Indicators

  • Torn clips or damaged retaining tabs
  • Twisted sections outside the plate groove
  • Uneven compression marks around the profile
  • Damage caused by deposits or sharp plate defects
  • Displacement associated with plate misalignment
Send photos of failed gaskets before discarding them. Damage patterns, together with service data, can help distinguish material incompatibility from installation, plate, or compression problems.
Installation and packing

NBR Gasket Sets Prepared for Maintenance

Installation Checks

  • Compare the new and reference profiles before fitting
  • Clean the groove without damaging its sealing surface
  • Seat the gasket without stretching or twisting
  • Verify plate order, orientation, and retaining features
  • Tighten the aligned plate pack uniformly

Manufacturing and Order Control

WTSML operates a 3,500 m² facility with rubber molding, precision stamping, CNC machining, and final-inspection workshops under an ISO 9001-certified quality management system.

  • Reference profile and retaining features checked before production
  • Material and order identification maintained during processing
  • Maintenance-set, OEM label, and packaging requirements confirmed by order
Material and purchasing questions

APV NBR Gasket FAQ

What applications are APV NBR gaskets commonly used for?

NBR is commonly evaluated for selected mineral oils, lubricants, greases, hydraulic fluids, and industrial utility applications. Final selection requires the exact fluid formulation, additives, temperatures, pressure, and cleaning conditions.

Is NBR suitable for every type of oil?

No. Mineral oils, synthetic oils, fuels, lubricants, and hydraulic fluids can use different base chemistries and additives. Provide the exact product information before material approval.

Can an APV exchanger model identify the exact NBR gasket?

Not always. Plate variants and gasket-retention designs can differ. Plate markings, measurements, gasket photographs, and an intact sample improve identification accuracy.

Can EPDM or FKM be replaced with NBR?

A material change may be considered only after checking both process circuits, fluid additives, cleaning chemicals, temperatures, pressures, and exposure duration. The gasket profile must also match the plate.

Can APV NBR gaskets be packed as complete maintenance sets?

Yes. Confirm the exchanger identification, installed plate quantity, special plate positions, spare allowance, and labeling requirements so the order can be grouped correctly.

Are these original APV NBR gaskets?

No. They are independently manufactured replacement gaskets intended for confirmed compatible APV gasketed plate heat exchanger configurations. The APV name is used only to identify compatibility requirements.

Confirm the NBR Compound and APV Gasket Profile

Send the exchanger model, plate and gasket photos, dimensions, exact fluids and additives, temperatures, pressures, cleaning conditions, quantity, and destination country.
