Compatible ITT Plates Must Match the Existing Heat Exchanger
ITT compatible plates are independently manufactured replacement components for servicing an identified plate heat exchanger. Reliable interchangeability depends on the complete plate geometry-not the brand name alone. The model reference, plate dimensions, port arrangement, corrugation pattern, gasket groove and plate-pack position should all be confirmed before an order is released.
For a Known Heat Exchanger
Provide the equipment model, nameplate photograph and any plate markings available. The installed plate arrangement should also be recorded before dismantling, especially when the pack contains different thermal patterns or dedicated end plates.
- Equipment manufacturer and complete model reference
- Plate markings, dimensions and clear face photographs
- Existing plate material and gasket attachment method
- Required quantity and plate position within the pack
For a Legacy or Uncertain Plate
Where a nameplate is missing or an old identification code is unclear, plate measurements and photographs become essential. A physical sample or dimensioned drawing may be required when multiple patterns have a similar external outline.
- Overall length, width and port-center measurements
- Port diameter and relative port positions
- Corrugation direction and gasket groove configuration
- Photos of the front, reverse, edge and stamped markings
What Determines Whether a Replacement Plate Will Fit?
A similar outline does not confirm interchangeability. Each dimensional and functional feature affects alignment, sealing or heat-transfer performance inside the compressed plate pack.
| Compatibility factor | What must be checked | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| External geometry | Overall length, width, corner shape and hanging features | The plate must locate correctly on the carrying and guide bars. |
| Port arrangement | Port diameter, center distances and open or closed port positions | Incorrect ports can interrupt the intended flow path or prevent assembly. |
| Corrugation pattern | Chevron direction, pressing pattern and mating orientation | The pattern affects plate contact, flow channels and thermal duty. |
| Gasket groove | Groove profile, attachment points and sealing path | The compatible gasket must seat correctly and form the required seals. |
| Plate material | Existing alloy, process fluid, cleaning chemistry and corrosion history | Material suitability depends on the actual operating environment. |
| Pack position | Flow plate, turning plate, start plate, end plate or other installed position | Port closure and gasket orientation can vary within one plate pack. |
Select the Plate Material from the Actual Process Conditions
Material selection should be confirmed against both sides of the heat exchanger, including normal operation, start-up, shutdown and cleaning conditions.
Fluid Composition
Identify the process and service fluids, concentration ranges, suspended solids and known contaminants. Trade names alone may not provide enough information for a material review.
Operating Envelope
State the normal and maximum temperature and pressure for each circuit. Also report pressure fluctuations, thermal cycling or other abnormal conditions observed in service.
Cleaning Conditions
Include cleaning chemicals, concentration, temperature, exposure time and cleaning frequency. A plate material suitable for the process fluid may still require evaluation against the cleaning regime.
Stainless Steel Plates
Stainless steel is used in many water and general process duties, but the exact alloy must be confirmed from the installed plate or operating conditions. Chloride content, temperature and previous corrosion evidence are important selection inputs.
Titanium and Nickel-Alloy Options
Titanium or nickel-alloy plates may be evaluated where the process environment is unsuitable for the existing stainless material. The upgrade should be based on complete fluid chemistry and operating data rather than the application name alone.
Information Required for an ITT Compatible Plate Quote
Accurate identification at the quotation stage reduces the risk of receiving plates with an incorrect pattern, port configuration or gasket groove.
Record the Equipment
Photograph the complete nameplate and record the full heat exchanger model and serial information where available.
Document the Plate
Clean one representative plate sufficiently to reveal stamped codes, markings, port closures and the complete corrugation pattern.
Measure Key Dimensions
Measure the overall plate size, port diameter, port-center distances and relevant hanging or alignment features.
Confirm Pack Position
State whether the requirement is for standard flow plates, turning plates, start or end plates, or a complete mixed plate set.
Provide Process Data
List fluids, concentrations, temperatures, pressures, cleaning agents and any observed corrosion, cracking or deformation.
Confirm Order Scope
Specify the quantity, matching gasket requirement, destination country and any labeling, packing or private-label needs.
Preserve the Original Sequence During Maintenance
A plate pack can contain different plate orientations and port configurations. Marking and recording the sequence before removal helps prevent incorrect reassembly and simplifies the identification of replacement positions.
Before Dismantling
- Record the compressed plate-pack dimension
- Mark the diagonal plate sequence across the pack
- Photograph the first, last and intermediate plate positions
- Separate plates with different port closures or patterns
- Record the gasket orientation on representative plates
During Incoming Inspection
- Compare dimensions and markings with the approved reference
- Check port arrangement and corrugation orientation
- Inspect gasket grooves and attachment features
- Confirm quantities for every plate position ordered
- Protect plate surfaces and edges before installation
Plates, Gaskets and Order Requirements
Replacement plates can be evaluated together with matching gaskets so the gasket groove, attachment style and sealing arrangement are reviewed as one maintenance package. WTSML operates precision stamping, rubber molding, CNC machining and final-inspection workshops within its 3,500 m² facility, with quality processes managed under an ISO 9001-certified system.
Dimensional Review
Available markings, measurements, drawings and sample details are compared before the production specification is confirmed.
Order Identification
Quantities and plate positions should be listed separately where the pack contains different patterns, port closures or end arrangements.
OEM Requirements
Private labeling and custom packaging can be discussed when the required identification, packing method and shipment destination are provided.
ITT Compatible Plate FAQ
What information is needed to identify an ITT compatible plate?
Provide the equipment nameplate, full model reference, plate markings, overall dimensions, port measurements and clear photographs of both plate faces. State the required plate position and quantity. A sample or dimensioned drawing may be needed when the installed unit cannot be identified conclusively.
Is the heat exchanger model number enough to confirm compatibility?
Not always. Units associated with the same model family may contain different plate patterns, materials or port configurations. Plate markings, dimensions, gasket groove details and the installed pack arrangement should also be checked.
Can individual damaged plates be replaced?
Individual replacement may be possible when the damaged plate position is known and the remaining pack is serviceable. Confirm the corrugation orientation, port openings, gasket arrangement and material for every plate being replaced.
Can a different plate material replace the installed material?
A material change requires a review of both fluids, concentrations, temperatures, pressures, cleaning chemicals and previous failure evidence. Dimensional compatibility does not establish chemical compatibility, so the proposed alloy should be confirmed before ordering.
Should matching gaskets be ordered with the plates?
Matching gaskets are advisable when existing gaskets are aged, damaged or unsuitable for reuse. Provide the fluid and operating conditions so the gasket material, groove fit and attachment method can be reviewed with the plate specification.
How should an uncertain legacy ITT plate be submitted for identification?
Send photographs of the complete plate, both faces, ports, hanging features, gasket groove and all stamped markings. Include measured dimensions and equipment photographs. If these details do not separate similar patterns, arrange confirmation using a physical sample or accurate drawing.
