Targeted Plate-Pack Repair

When Should an ITT Heat Exchanger Plate Be Replaced?

ITT replacement plates are used when inspection identifies damage that cannot be corrected by cleaning or gasket replacement. Typical reasons include perforation, cracking, deep corrosion, permanent deformation, damaged ports and unusable gasket grooves. Each replacement must reproduce the installed plate geometry and position.

Localized Plate Damage

Selected replacement may be practical when the damaged positions are identifiable and the remaining plate pack is serviceable.

  • Isolated pinholes or corrosion damage
  • Cracks around ports or pressed areas
  • Bent edges or damaged hanging points
  • Distorted gasket grooves or sealing surfaces

Repeated or Widespread Failure

Several failed plates may indicate unsuitable material, aggressive cleaning, pressure shock, incorrect compression or deterioration across the pack.

  • Inspect more than the visibly leaking plate
  • Compare damage on both fluid sides
  • Review chemistry and operating history
  • Determine whether a larger replacement set is needed

Information Required to Match ITT Replacement Plates

The equipment identity is useful, but the installed plate geometry and plate-pack position must also be verified.

Equipment data ITT heat exchanger model, serial information, nameplate photograph and available plate-pack records.
Plate outline Overall length and width, corner shape, hanging arrangement and frame contact features.
Port layout Port diameter, port-center distances and the required combination of open or closed ports.
Corrugation geometry Pressing pattern and orientation must create the intended channel with adjacent plates.
Gasket interface Gasket groove profile, sealing path and attachment design must accept the matching gasket.
Plate material Confirm the existing alloy and verify it against both fluids, temperatures and cleaning chemicals.
Plate position Identify start, channel, turning or end positions where applicable; port openings may differ.
Order quantity State the quantity for each plate configuration and whether matching gaskets are required.

Compatibility notice: These are independently manufactured aftermarket replacement plates. "ITT" identifies the intended equipment compatibility only and does not indicate manufacture or authorization by the brand owner.

Legacy Equipment Identification

Match ITT Plates When Records Are Incomplete

A clean sample plate provides useful geometric evidence when documentation is missing or identification marks are unreadable.

01

Record the Position

Mark the plate orientation, port configuration and location before removing the sample.

02

Measure the Geometry

Record overall dimensions, port diameter, center distances and hanging-point details.

03

Photograph Formed Details

Capture both faces, corrugations, gasket groove, ports, corners and visible markings.

Failure Assessment

Use the Damaged Plate to Define the Replacement

Record the damage before cleaning or disposal. Its appearance and location can indicate which operating factors require review.

Corrosion and Pinholes

Localized penetration can indicate chlorides, deposits, incompatible chemistry or unsuitable cleaning.

Cracking

Cracks around ports or deeply formed areas require review of pressure variations and service history.

Deformation

Bent or flattened areas can prevent uniform plate support and gasket compression.

Photograph both plate faces, identify the fluid side and describe any unusual pressure event, cleaning cycle or recurring leakage.

Material Review

Do Not Repeat a Material-Related Failure

The existing material is a starting point. When corrosion caused the failure, verify whether process or cleaning conditions changed.

Stainless Steel

Commonly evaluated for compatible water, HVAC, food-processing and industrial duties. Chlorides and temperature require review.

Titanium

Often considered for seawater or chloride-bearing media where confirmed conditions require greater corrosion resistance.

Specialized Alloys

Nickel-based or other materials may be evaluated where standard plate materials are unsuitable.

Include both fluid compositions, concentration, chlorides, temperatures, pressure and cleaning chemicals in the inquiry.

Identification Process

Prepare an ITT Replacement Plate Inquiry

1

Record the Nameplate

Photograph the equipment nameplate and provide all readable identification information.

2

Preserve the Sequence

Record orientation, port configuration and position before removing plates from the frame.

3

Clean a Sample

Remove deposits carefully so markings, corrugations and gasket grooves remain visible.

4

Photograph Both Faces

Take complete images and close-ups of ports, corners, hanging points and damage.

5

Measure Key Features

Provide dimensions, port diameter, center distances and available material markings.

6

Define the Requirement

List operating conditions, plate positions, quantity, gasket needs and destination country.

Replacement Scope

Individual Plates or a Larger Maintenance Set?

The appropriate scope depends on the damage pattern, remaining plate condition and certainty of the recorded sequence.

Individual Replacement

Suitable for evaluation when damage is localized and the exact plate configuration can be identified.

Matched Positions

Position-specific plates may be required when port openings, corrugations or gasket paths differ.

Larger Replacement Set

Consider a broader set when many plates show corrosion, thinning, deformation or uncertain serviceability.

Receiving and Installation

Checks Before Returning the Plate Pack to Service

Confirm the supplied plate identity, position and gasket arrangement before dismantling the existing pack.

Receiving Inspection

  • Compare geometry with the approved sample
  • Verify material, plate positions and quantities
  • Inspect edges, ports and hanging features
  • Check gasket grooves for transport damage
  • Keep different plate configurations labeled

Plate-Pack Assembly

  • Restore the recorded sequence and orientation
  • Use gaskets matched to the groove and fluids
  • Clean all sealing surfaces before closing
  • Tighten the frame evenly to the required dimension
  • Recommission gradually while checking for leakage

Buyer Questions

ITT Replacement Plates FAQ

Can one damaged ITT heat exchanger plate be replaced?

An individual plate may be replaceable when its geometry, material, port configuration and plate-pack position can be identified. The remaining plates and gaskets should also be inspected.

What information is required to match an ITT replacement plate?

Provide the equipment nameplate, photographs of both plate faces, dimensions, port measurements, visible markings, material, position and required quantity.

Can an ITT plate be identified without a readable part number?

Identification may be possible using photographs, dimensions, port-center measurements, hanging features, corrugation geometry, gasket groove and plate position.

Should a corroded plate be reordered in the same material?

Not automatically. If corrosion caused the failure, review both fluids, chlorides, concentration, temperature and cleaning chemicals before confirming the material.

Can matching gaskets be supplied with ITT replacement plates?

Compatible gaskets can be evaluated with the plates. Provide the attachment method, process fluids, temperature and cleaning conditions.

Are these replacement plates manufactured by ITT?

No. They are independently manufactured aftermarket components intended for verified ITT heat exchanger configurations. The ITT name identifies equipment compatibility only.
