Description
Replacement Gasket Assessment

Replacement Seals for Verified Gasketed SWEP Units

SWEP replacement gaskets are applicable only when the heat exchanger has an openable plate pack with elastomer seals between individual plates. Many SWEP models are permanently brazed units and therefore do not contain replaceable plate gaskets.

For a verified gasketed configuration, WTSML matches the replacement to the plate groove, port geometry, attachment points and plate arrangement. The compound is selected separately according to the process fluids, operating temperatures and cleaning cycle.

Required First Check

  • Full equipment model
  • Clear nameplate photograph
  • Frame and plate-pack photographs
  • Plate and gasket images
  • Process media and temperatures
  • Required quantity and destination
A brazed SWEP unit does not require a replacement plate-gasket set.

If the plate pack is permanently brazed and has no frame-tightening bolts, provide the model and fault details for a replacement-unit or service assessment instead.

Replacement Indicators

When a Gasketed Plate Pack May Need New Seals

Inspect the plates, gasket grooves and tightening condition before attributing every leak to gasket aging.

Loss of Elasticity

Hardened or permanently flattened rubber may no longer recover after plate-pack compression.

Cracks and Tears

Visible cracking, cuts or damaged retaining points can interrupt the sealing path.

Chemical Swelling

Softening, swelling or distortion can indicate that the compound is incompatible with the fluid.

Gasket Displacement

A gasket that repeatedly leaves the groove may have profile, installation or compression problems.

External Leakage

Leakage from the plate-pack edge requires inspection of the gasket, plate groove and tightening dimension.

Planned Rebuilding

A complete set can be evaluated when plates are removed for cleaning, inspection or reconditioning.

Packaging Standard export packing or agreed custom labels and packaging Unit number, project code or private-label format

Model, construction and profile availability must be confirmed before a SWEP replacement gasket order is accepted.

Gasket Identification

Data Needed for Profile Matching

  • Complete SWEP nameplate photograph
  • Images showing the frame and tightening bolts
  • Model and plate identification markings
  • Front and rear photographs of an intact gasket
  • Close views of ports and gasket-retention points
  • Plate length, width and port diameter if required
  • Plate count and gasket arrangement
  • Required quantity and delivery destination

Why an Old Gasket Is Not Enough

Removed elastomer can be stretched, hardened or chemically swollen. Measurements taken only from the used gasket may therefore produce an incorrect profile.

  • Use the plate groove as the main geometric reference.
  • Keep the gasket flat during photography.
  • Include the plate and equipment nameplate.
  • Do not identify the material from color alone.
Material Selection

Match the Compound to the Complete Operating Cycle

Review both circuits and the cleaning process. The most aggressive exposure may occur during cleaning rather than normal production.

NBR

Commonly evaluated for compatible oil-related and selected industrial utility duties.

Provide oil grade, base stock, additives and temperatures.

Oil-related service

EPDM

Commonly evaluated for compatible hot-water, HVAC and aqueous duties.

Mineral-oil and hydrocarbon exposure must be disclosed.

Water-based service

FKM

Considered for selected chemicals, oils and elevated-temperature processes.

Exact chemicals, concentrations and cleaning data are required.

Supply Workflow

From Unit Verification to Gasket-Set Packing

STEP 01

Check Construction

Confirm that the unit has an openable gasketed plate pack.

STEP 02

Identify Profile

Review plate groove, ports, retaining points and gasket arrangement.

STEP 03

Select Compound

Assess media, concentrations, temperatures and cleaning conditions.

STEP 04

Confirm Quantity

Check plate count, replacement scope, labels and packaging.

STEP 05

Inspect and Pack

Check finished profiles and separate sets by order identification.

For Maintenance Teams

Record the plate sequence before disassembly and separate each exchanger by model and unit number. Inspect plate grooves and sealing surfaces before installing new gaskets.

For Distributors and OEM Buyers

Provide the verified gasketed model range, compound requirements, quantity per item, labeling format and destination. Custom packaging can be reviewed with the order.

SWEP is referenced solely to identify equipment compatibility. WTSML replacement gaskets are independently manufactured and are not represented as original SWEP products.

Buyer Questions

SWEP Replacement Gasket FAQ

Do all SWEP heat exchangers have replaceable gaskets?

No. Many SWEP heat exchangers use brazed construction without replaceable elastomer seals between the plates. The model and construction must be verified first.

Can a brazed SWEP unit receive a replacement gasket set?

No. A standard brazed plate pack is permanently joined and does not contain removable plate gaskets. Leakage requires a different service or replacement assessment.

How do I identify a gasketed SWEP configuration?

An openable gasketed unit normally has a frame, pressure plate and tightening bolts. Send nameplate and full-unit photographs for confirmation.

Can a replacement gasket be matched from a sample?

Sample-based assessment may be possible. An intact gasket, its corresponding plate, equipment photographs and plate dimensions provide the most useful reference.

Which gasket compound should I choose?

NBR, EPDM and FKM suit different media. Selection requires the process fluids, concentrations, additives, operating temperatures and cleaning conditions.

Can complete replacement sets be supplied?

For a verified gasketed configuration, a complete set can be assessed using the model, plate count, gasket arrangement and required compound.

Are these original SWEP replacement gaskets?

No. Any supplied gaskets are independently manufactured, OEM-compatible parts matched to a verified gasketed SWEP heat exchanger configuration.
